
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), accompanied by ministers from the government of the Republic of Somaliland, including the Minister of Health Development, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, today attended the World AIDS Day Commemoration held at the JSL Police Headquarters. The President thanked the National Commission for HIV/AIDS Control, the Ministry of Health Development and international organizations for their support in the 20th World AIDS Day Commemoration.

The President sent a weighty message to the Somaliland community on HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, urging the people of Somaliland to collectively address the challenges associated with this disease, and to increase awareness, in order to reduce risks, and increase the general understanding of the community regarding HIV/AIDS. Also, the President of the Republic of Somaliland encouraged the people of Somaliland, especially the youth, to make annual health screening a social practice, in order to identify a person’s health status at an early stage.

Also, the President of the Republic of Somaliland urged the community not to alienate or discriminate against our brothers and sisters living with HIV/AIDS, emphasizing that they are part of society, and said: “You are one of us, you are our brothers and sisters.”
The President called for unity in prevention, awareness and social care, in order to build a healthy nation, and to eradicate discrimination and marginalization of the community living with HIV/AIDS.

The participation of the President of the Republic of Somaliland in the observance of World HIV/AIDS Day (01.12.2025) demonstrates the priority that the President gives to the health of the people of Somaliland, the care and protection of vulnerable people.
