The Director General of the Ministry of Health Development, Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Jama, received some of the institutions that have close cooperation with the Ministry in his office today.
The Director General was accompanied by the Director of the Ministry’s Public Health Department, the Head of the Emergency Department and other officials. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss in depth the situation of Leishmaniasis, which has been reported in Sanaag region in recent times.
This disease, which is transmitted by the bite of a female sandfly, requires attention and an urgent response.During the meeting, it was agreed to work together to address the disease, by accelerating awareness-raising, treatment, and data collection and monitoring of the disease situation.
It was also agreed to send survey teams to confirm the type of fly that causes the disease, in order to find appropriate medicines and effective methods to deal with the disease.
