
Hargeisa, [09 Nov 2025[ Key stakeholders from the health sector convened at the Jeez Hotel yesterday for a crucial one-day workshop to validate the revised National Health Policy for 2025-2030.

The event marks a significant step towards finalizing a strategic roadmap for the nation’s healthcare system over the next five years.

The workshop, organized by the Planning Department of the Ministry of Health, was conducted under the Damal Caafimaad Project, a major initiative funded by the World Bank.

The gathering served as a collaborative platform to refine and endorse the policy document before its official implementation.The meeting brought together a wide array of health sector leaders.

In attendance were officials from the World Health Organization (WHO), various key staff and heads from the Ministry of Health’s Planning, Human Resource, Hospitals, Community Health, and Public Relations departments. Also present were the Project Coordinator of the Damal Caafimaad project, Dr. Mohamed Aw Ali Ulimo and representatives from the National Health Professional Council (NHPC), SOLNAC, and other key line institutions.

The Deputy Director of Planning, Dr. Abdiqani officially opened the meeting, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative and inclusive approach in shaping the nation’s health future.The first session featured an online presentation by the policy’s lead consultant, who guided participants through the draft document.

The presentation was facilitated by the Director of Planning, providing a comprehensive overview of the policy’s framework and key proposals.

The primary objective of the workshop was the validation of the draft policy. Participants were tasked with providing critical inputs and recommendations on several core components, including:· The final text for the policy’s vision, mission, and guiding principles.· Prioritized strategic actions and their implementation phases.· Clarification of roles, governance structures, and coordination mechanisms.· Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) indicators, review cadence, and decision triggers.· Essential inputs for the policy’s financing framework.To facilitate in-depth discussion, participants were divided into five working groups.

Each group was assigned to meticulously review one of the five chapters that make up the comprehensive 40-page policy document. This group-work methodology ensured that every aspect of the policy received focused expert scrutiny.

The validated National Health Policy 2025-2030 is expected to be a cornerstone document, guiding government and partner efforts to strengthen the country’s health system, improve service delivery, and ultimately achieve better health outcomes for all citizens.
