His Excellency Mr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, Minister of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, officially inaugurated the Strengthening of the Immunization Program Project today. This critical initiative is made possible through the generous funding of the Government of the Republic of Korea.
The project aims to bolster immunization services across eight districts in Somaliland, targeting 53 health facilities and enhancing the technical capacities of 159 health workers to deliver high-quality care. Key priorities include upgrading the cold chain infrastructure, extending outreach to underserved and hard-to-reach communities, and increasing safe vaccine coverage for children nationwide.
This initiative is poised to significantly reinforce the national immunization framework by expanding access to essential services for mothers and children, mitigating the threat of vaccine-preventable diseases, and fostering the long-term sustainability of health facilities through capacity development and systems strengthening.
During the launch ceremony, government officials expressed profound gratitude to the Republic of Korea, UNICEF, WHO, and all collaborating partners for their steadfast support.
They emphasized that the project marks a pivotal step toward achieving equitable, internationally compliant immunization services—ensuring that every child and community, regardless of location, benefits from a resilient and inclusive health system.
