HARGEISA, Somaliland – The Minister of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, conducted an official inspection of health facilities across five locations—Dar es Salaam, Balliga Cas, Ilibta Galbeed, Biyo Shiina, and Geed Deeble.
These facilities operate under the Damal Health Project, a key initiative aimed at expanding access to essential health services.The delegation included Deputy Minister of Health Development Dr. Mohamed Aw-Daahir, the Manager of the Hargeisa Water Agency, the Director of Human Resources, the Ministry’s Maroodijeex Regional Coordinator Dr. Mahad Abdi Yaasin, the Head of Mosquito Control, project leads, representatives from implementing partner Alight, and other senior ministry officials.
The tour commenced with a comprehensive meeting between the delegation and local authorities, where discussions centered on fortifying healthcare delivery, identifying critical gaps, and accelerating project milestones to ensure timely impact.Subsequently, the team visited each of the five health facilities, conducting on-the-ground assessments of service quality, medical supply chains, infrastructure conditions, and urgent priority needs requiring immediate intervention.
Facility heads presented detailed briefings on their operational scope, recurring challenges, and specific areas where ministerial and project support is most needed.
In closing remarks, Minister Hirsi commended healthcare workers for their unwavering dedication and resilience in serving vulnerable communities. He urged them to sustain their momentum and continue striving for higher standards of care to meet the population’s growing health demands.
This inspection forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing oversight and strengthening efforts, particularly for initiatives under the Damal Qafaam Project, which is financed by the World Bank and serves as a cornerstone of Somaliland’s health sector reform agenda.
