Somaliland Delegation Attends Global Fund Conference (GC8) in Nairobi to Advance HIV, TB, and Malaria Priorities

Kenya – A delegation led by Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Jama, Director General of the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development, is attending the Global Fund Conference (GC8) in Nairobi. The delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Health Development and the AIDS Control Commission.

The conference focuses on presenting and discussing Somaliland’s strategic health priorities related to HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria.

The participation underscores Somaliland’s commitment to reducing the burden of these diseases through strategic planning, evidence-based interventions, and health system strengthening.

During the meeting, Somaliland’s priorities were closely reviewed, including an in-depth analysis of existing challenges, development opportunities, and strategies to align Global Fund support with the country’s actual needs.

Discussions also emphasized strengthening health systems, improving preventive and treatment services, and enhancing collaboration between the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development and international organizations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure quality, equitable, and sustainable health services.

The Somaliland Ministry of Health Development continues to work closely with the Global Financing Facility (GFF), the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), UNICEF, and WHO to improve the accessibility, quality, and sustainability of health services across Somaliland.
