In a bid to boost public awareness and accelerate vaccination coverage, the Minister of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, officially inaugurated World Immunization Week in Burco—a global initiative dedicated to highlighting the life-saving power of vaccines.

The well-organized ceremony drew a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including senior officials from the Ministry of Health Development, the Togdheer Regional Administration, the Burco local government, and representatives from international and local partner organizations. Health workers, who serve on the front lines of vaccine delivery, along other invited guests, were also in attendance.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Hirsi underscored that vaccination remains the most effective defense against serious and potentially fatal diseases, protecting not only children but society as a whole.

He made a direct appeal to the public to take full advantage of the nation’s free vaccination services, stating that universal immunization is essential for a healthy society free from preventable illnesses.

The Minister further praised the dedication of health workers and all ministry partners involved in vaccine programs, particularly commending their relentless efforts to reach underserved communities in remote areas where access to health services remains a challenge.

World Immunization Week serves as a pivotal opportunity to reinforce vaccination drives, raise public awareness, and encourage greater involvement from parents and caregivers. The Ministry of Health Development reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing health services and ensuring that every citizen receives the necessary immunizations for their safety and well-being.
