Somaliland Opens New Vaccination Center at Hargeisa General Hospital to Boost Disease Prevention

Hargeisa, Somaliland — In a significant step toward strengthening public health services, Somaliland’s Minister of Health Development, Mr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, officially inaugurated a new vaccination center for children and adults at Hargeisa General Hospital.

The inauguration ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of health officials and international partners, including the Director and Deputy Director of Hargeisa General Hospital, the Director of the Vaccination and Child Health Department, and the Director of the Health Services and Hospital Development Department. Also in attendance were the Maroodijeex Regional Coordinator, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and Save the Children, along with other senior officials.The new facility forms part of the Ministry of Health Development’s broader strategy to reinforce immunization services, expand access to preventive care, and ensure that life-saving vaccines are within reach for both children and adults.

The center is expected to play a critical role in combating vaccine-preventable diseases, including Hepatitis, by enhancing the vaccination capacity of ÿHargeisa General Hospital. Its establishment underscores ongoing efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure at the hospital and deliver essential services tailored to community needs—particularly in the area of disease prevention.
