Delegation from Uganda and ECSA Community Pays Official Visit to Somaliland

A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Health of Uganda and the ECSA Community paid an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, where they held a key meeting with the Minister of Health Development of Somaliland, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of Health Services and Hospitals, the Deputy Director of Planning, and the Director General of the National Laboratory, who play a key role in the development of health services in the country.

The main objective of the delegation was to strengthen and develop the capacity of laboratory systems, in line with international guidance and guidelines related to combating infectious diseases. This is essential for building a resilient health system that can respond to emergencies efficiently and quickly.During their stay in Somaliland, from 22 March to 2 April 2026, the delegation conducted extensive inspections and assessments at the National Laboratory and various hospital laboratories. The inspections focused on, The quality of laboratory services, The level of equipment and technology used, The capacity and skills of staff, Quality assurance systems.

In addition, the delegation provided technical advice and practical guidance on, Strengthening diagnostic capacity, Developing laboratory systems, and Aligning with international standards and regulations.These recommendations will significantly contribute to enhancing public confidence in the health system, as well as strengthening the country’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases.

The Somaliland Minister of Health Development thanked the delegation for their visit and their efforts to strengthen and develop the country’s laboratory system, noting that this partnership plays a major role in improving the quality of health services and responding to infectious diseases.This visit demonstrates a strategic partnership between Somaliland and countries in the region, which enhances joint efforts to strengthen public health, improve health services, and protect the overall safety of citizens.
