Building a Healthier Future: Somaliland Launches Landmark National Nutrition Strategy Development

The Director General of the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Jama, officially inaugurated the first phase of a two-day national consultative meeting today, marking a critical step toward the development of the country’s first comprehensive National Nutrition Strategy.

The gathering is focused on formulating a cohesive framework to guide nutrition interventions across Somaliland over the coming years. Key agenda items include a thorough assessment of the current nutrition landscape, identification of national priorities, and analysis of prevailing challenges and opportunities—all aimed at bolstering the delivery and sustainability of nutrition services nationwide.

The meeting brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including departmental directors from the Ministry, the Head of the Nutrition Program, program leads from various Ministry divisions, and representatives from line ministries.

International partners were also well represented, with participation from United Nations agencies such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside other international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).

The Ministry of Health Development extends its sincere appreciation to the WFP for its technical and financial support in facilitating this strategy development process.

Once finalized, the National Nutrition Strategy is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the health and nutritional well-being of communities across Somaliland.
