
The Ministry of Health Development and the Somaliland Midwives and Nurses Association (SLNMA), supported by the Government of Canada, CARE and CAM, officially opened a workshop to review the National Curriculum for Midwifery Education in Somaliland.

The three-day workshop focused on implementing a national curriculum that is in line with international standards and Somaliland’s health needs, to produce highly qualified and skilled midwives.The conference was opened by the Deputy Minister of Health Development, Dr. Mohamed Aw-daahir, who stressed the importance of improving midwifery education to strengthen maternal and newborn health services.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Health Professionals’ Association, the President of the Midwives and Nurses Association, the Director of the Human Resources Department, various officials from the Ministry, universities in the country, health training centers, various organizations working with the Ministry, experts and stakeholders, who discussed in depth the importance and implementation of the curriculum.
Finally, the Ministry noted that the implementation of this curriculum will play a major role in improving the quality of health services, especially those for mothers and children.
